The Niels Bohr Institute, Faculty of Science at the University of Copenhagen is offering two or more PhD scholarships in experimental hybrid quantum mechanics commencing in 2019.
The QUANTOP laboratory at the Niels Bohr Institute hosts a number of projects in the field of experimental quantum optics, quantum measurement, and quantum communication. In particular, active research is carried out in the field of hybrid quantum systems where optical photons couple to mechanical and atomic systems for generation of entangled and other non-classical states of light and matter.
The position is available for a 3-year period and your key tasks as a PhD student at SCIENCE are:
  • To manage and carry through your research project
  • Attend PhD courses
  • Write scientific articles and your PhD thesis
  • Teach and disseminate your research
  • To stay at an external research institution for a few months, preferably abroad
  • Work for the department
Worth of Award
  • The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.
  • Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.
  • The starting salary is currently at a minimum DKK 309.460 (approx. €43,600) including annual supplement (+ pension up to DKK 44,980). Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
Eligibility for PhD Fellowships
  • The applicants must possess Master degree in physics and have demonstrated experimental research experience in either one or more areas, such as quantum optics, opto-mechanics, precision measurements, and atomic physics.
  • As criteria for the assessment of your qualification’s emphasis will also be laid on previous publications (if any) and relevant work experience.
